How My Client Got Her Dream Job in Just 1 Month

Let me share the story of one of my clients.

Someone who, like you, found herself qualified for a slew of roles (we're talking upwards of 20) but wasn’t getting any traction.

After months of job searching, she had only landed two interviews.

WOMP. WOMP.

When we first connected, she was frustrated and confused.

UH, YEAH. 

She couldn’t understand why her applications weren’t leading to more opportunities.

After all, she was capable of doing so many things!

She branded herself as a:

BUT

...the problem wasn’t her qualifications.

The problem was her approach.

Our Turning Point

When I reviewed her LinkedIn profile and resume, it became clear: she was trying to be too many things to too many people.

Her materials showed her as a highly-versatile utility player but they didn’t present her as a specialist in any one area.

Instead of standing out, she blended in with everyone else applying to similar roles.

We decided to change her approach by narrowing her focus.

Instead of casting a wide net and hoping for the best, she identified the two roles she was most passionate about.

Once she had that clarity, we tailored her resume and LinkedIn profile specifically for those positions.

Her narrative shifted from “I can do everything” to “Here’s why I’m the perfect fit for this role.”

My Advice to Her:

"Stop Trying to Be Everything to Everyone"

The biggest change came when she stopped applying for every role she was qualified for and started focusing on the right roles. We made her job search more targeted by doing this:

1. Refining Her Focus: Instead of applying for any role that fit her broad skill set, she zeroed in on two specific positions that aligned with her core strengths and long-term goals. 

2. Tailoring Her Resume and LinkedIn: Her previous resume was generic, listing a long list of achievements and skills without a clear focus. We turned all of her "public facing" materials into a streamlined narrative that told the story of why she was the perfect candidate for those specific jobs.

3. Intentional Networking: With a clearer sense of her goals, her conversations became more focused.
   
   

The Results?

From Struggling to Thriving in ONE MONTH

Within just one week of making these changes, she started to see results.

She landed two new interviews almost immediately. Her story no longer felt scattered—she was presenting herself as someone who knew what she wanted and had the skills to match.

But the real breakthrough came a month later, when she was offered her dream job.

After months of frustration, she finally got the opportunity she had been searching for.

It all came down to one simple shift:

She stopped trying to be everything to everyone.

What You Can Learn From This

• Choose 2-3 roles that best match your strengths and passions. This gives your job search direction.
• Tailor your resume and LinkedIn profile to speak directly to those roles. Don’t just list everything you’ve done—tell a story that shows why you’re the perfect fit for those jobs.
• Network with purpose. Connect with people in your target industry and roles. Focus on quality over quantity.
